A maximum of 32 security compartments may be used in a KSOS system. The type independent information (the tii struct) of every object contains a compart set field that determines which security compartments the object belongs, with each bit indicating one compartment. A process may not read an object if the object belongs to any compartments which the process does not belong. A process may not write on an object if the process belongs to any compartments that the object does not belong.A process may not read an object if the object belongs to any compartments which the process does not belong.
